It can be used for presentation of information . In other words, It is a way to present information incorporating more than one medium mainly text, graphics, one medium mainly text, graphics, images, sound, vedio, or movie.

Hardware requirement for multimedia  

A hardware can move in multimedia

• P.C(personal computer) with high speed processor high resolution monitor, keyboard, mouse etc.
•  Speakers/headphone.
• Scanners(optional).

                                         Software  requirement for multimedia  

A software can run in multimedia

• Windows as operating system( Any multimedia support operating system ,example - Linux apple machintosh).
• Mahintosh is an operating system that is only move in multimedia.

Application of Multimedia 

The advent of multimedia , different companies are using it in their respective fields use of multimedia can be seen in classes. Railway platforms and shopping molls ,here, we discuss the of multimedia mainly in three fields:

• In the field of education.
• In the fields of entertainment.
• In the fields of marketing.

1. Application of multimedia in Education  = Multimedia was initially used in some specific fields , education is one of them. In fact multimedia was in use , since nobody even know this term. Teachers have been using multimedia . Since the inception of teaching trading. They used black board for writing the text while using their voice i.e. sound to explain the things to the students multimedia has got following contribution in education today.

• Booking in optical version = Today , a lot of book on different topics are available in optical from in the market book of optical value means book stored in cd and dvd-Rom. These Cd and dvd -Rom conatin entire book in them. Contents of the books incorporate text, sound, animation, and movies that help mentally challenged students understand the things easily. Aparts from all that, exercises are prepared in well planned and interesting wy for self education.  
• Electronic Learning  = Multimedia is being greatly used in teaching language. These multimeedia packages use text, sound, and movies to help students learn language easily. Text helps in reading text and sound makes students grasp the exact pronunciation and accent while movies present an understanding of gestures.

2. Application of multimedia in entertainment = Multimedia contributes a lot in the field of entertainment . Movies that incorporate sound and images present the best example how useful multimedia is in the fields of entertainment . In addition to traditional films , cartoon movies are also made taking great advantage of muktimedia , multimedia games are also a great source for entertainment. A few names in movies like jajantram mamantram, Abra ka dabra, jurasic park lakshya would likely not have been possible without multimedia.

3.   Application of multimedia in Marketeting =Multimedia is equally important in marketing today . Right from advertisement to electronic shopping and presentation are nothing but products of the amazing multimedia. In the previous decades advertisement was limited to only print media i.e newspapers and magazines that was not able to attract the target group. However, multimedia features advertisemnt today impresses a large sect of audience that cannot be avoided . Railway Station , Airport, shopping Malls are infested with big screen advertisement products incorporating text sound and animation . Multimedia is also used in the advertisement on internet . Multimedia sans sites are proved today as a fiasco.

Multimedia package like powerprint is highly used in presenting marketing strategy before a large audience . In addition various types of kiosks are available to make the customers aware of their products.
